Fire cupping – it’s not all about the marks!
There are a lot of misconceptions about the ancient practice of cupping. Since it is something very new to most people who only learned about it recently via the media, professional athletes, and celebrities. First off – big red marks are not how we determine success or treatment. The longer the cups are left on the stronger they become. In TCM, cups are moved and not leave for more than 10+ minutes. If you are a woman in your 40s or 50s, eats well and exercise 4-5 hours per week moderately, moving cupping is more suitable for you.
By moving the cups, the lymph is assisted in removing inflammation that causes toxins and the body can bring in immune cells that assist in the healing process. Together with new blood circulation and lymph movement, help to rejuvenate cells and alleviate pain. However, If you are like Michael Phelps who eats 5000+ calories a day and trains 4-6 hours daily, then leaving cups for 20+ minutes is suitable for you. This is because longer cupping creates more inflammation, which is needed as the first step for muscle recovery; and to pull out acid lactic accumulation after the daily intense workout. So, depending on your constitution, gender, age and lifestyle, each cupping session we do here will be different for each body type.
